“In reality, sometimes, a Dot behaves like a Line and a Line transforms itself into a Dot. How then do we understand this vast difference that distinguishes the Dot from the Line? In factuality, these realities keep changing; while they stay static in our vocabulary, their opposing extremes tend to a commonality” ~ Rajesh Patil.
Rajesh Patil (b. 1972) is a self-taught artist from Indore. His works are deeply philosophical in nature as he is an artist who is constantly questioning and contesting the boundaries of reality as we see and understand it. He has worked with many different mediums, and in this particular series, created symbolic patters by gently burning at his paper with a light flame. Calligraphic text written in his native language is so lightly impressed it is almost invisible, creating an enigmatic ethereal quality to his works. Patil has held many solo exhibitions across India and has also participated in numerous group shows internationally, the latest of which was held at Gallery 27 in London, UK (May 2010).
