Kishor Kumar Das was born in Guwahati, Assam. After completing his BA in the Fine Arts, he went on to complete his MA in Fine Arts from M S University, Baroda, in 1995. Das has been participating in exhibitions since 1987. He has held shows in Mumbai, Guwahati, and Kolkata. At present, he is a lecturer at District Institute of Education and Training in Morigaon.
Das works with acrylic on canvas. His paintings cover objects, human figures, and nature. Images of ordinary everyday life show people engaged in activities together side by side. The theme of nature is shown in the form of people using it only for their own selfish needs. He says, "When we pluck flowers, we do so for ourselves, we do not realize that it is attached to a big large tree. That's when selfishness steps in."
Das is a recipient of scholarship from Director of cultural Affairs, Guwahati in 1989 and 1993. He has participated in several state and national level workshops and camps. His collections are displayed in various institutions in India and abroad.
He lives and works in Baroda.
Comments on his recent exhibition (2006) ~
"My recent works focus on objectivity. I am using power known as mighty force as a way of conveying my thought process. In my painting, the cupboard for instance shows my hidden mind, no one can tell what is running in my mind, and even the iron that we normally use for everyday purposes can be seen as a means of power. All the objects are shown at a conceptual level."
