Ganesh Haloi's works have left an indelible mark in the field of Indian Art. He was born in Jamalpur, Bangladesh, and later migrated to Kolkata during the partition. In 1956, he graduated from the Government College of Art and Craft in Kolkata. He was awarded the Gold Medal from the Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta in 1963, 1964, and again in 1970.
Haloi's initial focus was the study of murals belonging to the Ajanta period. The experience refined his artistic skills. Colors and composition now form the basis of all his paintings. He has moved through landscapes onto more geometrical elements like rectangles and trapeziums over a period of time. He has always maintained his high standard of craftsmanship.
His works are displayed in various public and private collections. He lives and works in his home in Salt Lake, Kolkata.
