Born in Ahmedabad, Manu Parekh moved to Mumbai to study at the Sir J.J. School of Arts, graduating in 1962. A very prominent Indian artist, his works have been shown widely across India and the world. He has been the recipient of a Silver Plaque, given to him by the President of India and has also been awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1991. He has had numerous solo shows at major art galleries in Mumbai, Delhi, Baroda, Kolkata, New York, London, and Singapore.
Parekh's works reflect his acute vulnerability to his environment. Attracted to the organic, he aims to capture life and humanity in its essence and simplicity. Uninspired by big cities such as Delhi, Parekh gravitates more so towards rural and organic surroundings. Landscapes and still lives form his forte. He has captured Benares (Varanasi) in the form of beautiful landscapes, rivers, temples and the vibrant energy of the entire city. He is also known for the portraits he has painted of the villagers he had seen during his travels across India. His mediums vary from oils on canvas to mixed media on rice paper.
Manu Parekh lives and works in New Delhi along with his wife Madhavi Parekh.
