Prafulla Dahanukar was born in Goa, Maharashtra. She completed her Diploma in art at Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai in 1955. She received a scholarship from the Government of France to study graphic art, and the Ecole National Superieure des Beaux Arts, Paris has held an exhibition of her paintings.
Prafulla's paintings were initially based on Nature, involving gentle landscapes, trees, mountain, villages, and fields. Everyday realism form the foundation of her paintings. Later, however, her work started to take the shape of individual form. Each day seem to get her more nearer to a world of authenticity and realism, which one could regularly start seeing in her vocation.
She has executed a number of murals using assorted materials such as glass, aluminum, wood, metal scrap, and ceramic. With the help of all these materials, she forms variegated compositions. Her murals adorn many buildings in Mumbai and places outside India, like the theatres in Muscat and Jodhpur.
She lives and works in Mumbai.
