"I draw barcodes on all my paintings.... It reflects contemporary life and shows consumerist trends in 2002, .....when markets rule our lives." So says Babu Xavier boldly, as he has worked hard, rather late, in his life and also won success that many artists may envy. Encouraged by another senior artist Jayapal Panickar, from his home state Kerala, Babu left science faculty and joined the Cholamandal Art Colony in Madras and worked under his guidance for a while. Deriving inspiration from the abundance of nature around in the god’s own land, he initially made small size paintings to earn his living. But once his works were exhibited at a prestigious an art gallery in Mumbai, there was no looking back; since then he has held 19 solo shows in India and the major cities in Europe. Committed to his own style of painting, this non compromising artist asserts with honesty,-“ Not everyone will like nor understand my art work; they're not meant to." ~Prakriti Kashyap
