Pravin Utge (B.1978)

Pravin Utge of Jalgaon, Maharashtra, received his Art Teacher Diploma from the Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya, of Latur in 1999. He went on to attend the Bharati Kala Mahavidyalay, in Pune, to attain his G.D. in Art (Drawing & Painting) in 2002 and completed his Dip-A-ed (Diploma in Art Education) from the same in 2003.
Although he has been awarded for his landscapes and portraits, he prefers to depict the innocent glare, beauty and purity found in young women. He portrays these qualities through their large half open eyes, elongated till their ears, the softness of their gaze drips with pure innocence. All his female figures have soft lips, always a closed mouth, their shape and texture resembling the flowers held within the girl’s tender long fingers. The smoothness of the female figures are juxtaposed to a roughly textured background, this serving to magnify their youth and purity. His works almost remind one of miniature paintings.
The artist has won many accolades over the years for his works, beginning in 1999, when he received first prize at the Annual Art Exhibition for Landscapes. He has had several solo shows and participated in various group shows across the Indian subcontinent and has also shown in Singapore’s Colour Wheel Art Gallery (2004-2005) The artist currently resides and works in Mumbai.
