Fawad Tamkant (B.1962)

Fawad has an interesting background; he hails from a family of poets but graduated in Commerce, going on to later join the Fine Arts faculty at the Hyderabad University. Here he received a Master’s degree and scored a Gold Medal.

He utilizes various media like water colors, oil and acrylic paints, on an array of surfaces from canvas, to tarpaulin and even acid free rice paper. His subject matter is varied as well, ranging from vibrant village scenes, to personal and intimate moments remembered in monotone. The later is particularly true for his 2000 series.

His works often centre around everyday mundane objects - a tea pot, bottles, an old leather jacket, a bed - objects that do not carry any obvious or blatant aesthetic value. The artist strives to present such mundane objects in such a way that their hidden asthetic appeal is revealed. His interesting compositions and choice of objects/subjects reveal a narrative of the artist's own experiences and even betray some of his most intimate moments.

The artist has held several solo and group shows in India and some major cities in the world.
