Paresh Maity (B.1965)

A graduate in Fine Arts from the Govt. School of Art and Craft, Kolkatta, he went to Delhi to obtain M.F.A. from College of Art,and passed with the top grade. Nature, rural India, the people, the landscape and lately the intimate human relationship are the three main sources of his inspiration to fill his creative sap.

Paresh is one of the finest water color artist in India today and accepting his preference for the medium he says, “Water colors are the heart and soul of my being.”

Extensive traveling through the picturesque interiors of the country and other parts of Europe have resulted in series of landscape paintings in which he has captured Nature’s furry and bounty with passion and sensitivity. During his stay in Rajasthan, the land of riots of colors, Paresh voluntarily imbibed the vibrant colors and this influence lingered in his other series as well. What is remarkable about him is his bold distinctive style of expression to capture the limitless Nature in deep hues and that has won him the international recognition (1994-96) when he was still in his twenties.
Paresh had a brief tryst with abstract and proved his talent there as well.

Next to Nature, rural folk and their festive celebrations have captivated the artist’s attention. The sheer charm of the landscape, the gaiety and the verve of the rural folk dressed in their exotic clothes, their simple rustic joy at the community celebrations and all that is captured in his paintings on Pushkar Mela and other paintings on Rajasthan (2003).

In yet another phase of his artistic depiction Paresh explicitly illustrates eroticism with such subtlety and decorum that it evokes the aesthetic sensibility experienced in ancient Indian poetry. Similar refinedness is reflected in the motifs, symbols or colors he uses.

He has participated in numerous prestigous art exhibitions and his works are essential in any major Indian art collection. His works have also toured across a host of international venues ranging from Germany, France, the UK, Hungary, Canada, Switzerland, Egypt and Dubai. He is awarded Gold Medal by the USSR. In 2002 Paresh was awarded by the Royal Water Colour Society and is considered one of the most successful young contemporary artist in India.
