S.G. Vasudev was born in Mysore in 1941.
In 1968 he received a diploma in Fine Arts from the Government College of Art and Crafts, Chennai. The awards came his way even before he completed his education in art.
In the year 1967 he received National award, Karnataka; prior to this the Lalita Kala Akadami awarded him in 1965 and subsequently in the years 1979 and 1988 he won the same accolades. The Tamilnadu State Lalita Kala Akademi awarded his works in 1965, 1977 and 1979.
He has held several solo shows in the major centers in India, Canada and the U.S. and his paintings are in collection with National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, and Lalita Kala Akadami, New Delhi.
