During his student career at the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata where he received Diploma, Sanat Kar formed Artists' Circle. Soon after compliting his education he opted for academic career and rose to be a professor, Head of Graphic Department and then Principal of Kala Bharati, Shanti Niketan where he presently lives a retiered life.
This artist is basically a print maker and that textured effect is evident in his both prints and paintings. Initially during 1950s and '60s he was influenced by Impressionism as seen in his oils.Later he used tempera and tried his hands at sculpting. Noticably his figures and faces maintain innocence and simplicity in line. He has participated in several solo and group shows in India, UK, US, Russia and Japan and his works are nominated at prestigious auction houses in India and abroad.
He is awarded by the All India Fine Arts Exhibitions, New Delhi and Kolkata. The other award came in his way is the Lalit Kala Akadami, Kolkata. He has participated in several camps, workshops and seminars on printmaking and has presented several papers at conferences.
